A Historical Overview

Bayview Manor was established in 1961 on the former site of the historic Kinnear Mansion in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood.  Early Seattleite Charles A. Kinnear bequeathed the property to the First United Methodist Church for the care of older adults and children.

In 1995, the original 10-story Tower Building was augmented with the opening of the new Terrace Building, which includes the Wellness Center, computer lab and Bayview's Intergenerational Childcare Center.  Today, 154 apartments are designed for independent living; another 25 apartments accommodate assisted living; and 50 beds are available in our skilled nursing facility.

Founded as an independent not-for-profit organization, Bayview Manor continues to operate in that capacity today and remains affiliated with the United Methodist Church.  We are proud of the fact that our residents embrace many faiths.

An Accredited “CCRC”

What does it mean to be a “continuing care retirement community,” or CCRC?  It means that by offering independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care, Bayview Manor can assure residents that their needs can be met right here if their physical conditions change.  The United Methodist Association helps ensure strict adherence to quality standards through accreditation by EAGLE – the Educational Assessment Guidelines Leading toward Excellence.  Bayview Manor also is a member of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) and the Washington Association of Housing and Services for the Aging (WAHSA).

A True Community

Bayview Manor is not just a place to live, it is truly a community of unique individuals who exist in a warm, supportive environment.  The Intergenerational Childcare Center for children ages six weeks to six years old lends a special youthful exuberance to life at Bayview Manor. Our residents are actively involved in their community, yet privacy and independence are appreciated.  Our employees are mindful of the fact that they work in your home.  We all live and work together respectfully.

Location

We believe Bayview Manor has the most enviable location of any retirement community in the Seattle area.  Located at the base of Queen Anne Hill, we offer easy access to shopping, entertainment, restaurants, bus lines and activities.  A solarium is located on each floor of our building to take advantage of spectacular views of Elliott Bay, downtown Seattle, the Olympic Mountains, Mount Rainier and/or the Space Needle.  Virtually every apartment enjoys an outstanding city, mountain or water view. The view from Bayview Manor

The Bayview Manor Foundation

A charitable foundation has been established for the purpose of providing financial assistance to residents who exhaust their resources.  The foundation accepts tax-deductible contributions to support its efforts.

Governance

A Board of Trustees, which includes two resident representatives, ensures that the policies that govern Bayview Manor enhance its viability as one of Seattle’s finest retirement communities.  In addition, residents elect members of a Resident Council to advocate for the individuals who reside in Bayview Manor.  The Council also plans and organizes various resident activities and functions.
